Meijhorst - Nijmegen

Theme : Countries

Subtheme : Traditional costume

National costume ( traditional costume ) also known as national dress, or regional costume expresses an identity through costume which usually relates to a geographic area, but indicate social, marital and religious status. Such as costumes often come in two forms : one for everyday occasions, the other for festivals and formal wear.

The children at 5, 6, 7 and 8 grade were learning about countries this past few months and I have chosen a traditional costume as a subtheme for the workshop. With 9 children inside my subtheme traditional costume workshop, it was really fun as usual working with children, their creativity and enthusiasm never make me feel bored.

The time passed really fast when I work with the children, more interestingly when they were asking me with a lot of different request, they want to learn much more about their father or their mother culture by drawing the traditional costume which is close to their heart.

Colouring is a part of drawing, with colours they were able to play with their imagination and finally reached their goal. I called it finished detail, such as the colour of the hat, the colour of the shoes and the colour of the costume it self.  Most of the children colour their drawing with strong passion, they determine to have a perfect result just to bring back home their drawing and show it to their parents proudly.

From the nine children inside my workshop, I was able to help them with making their own traditional costume or a costume which they fall in love with. Many children in this school came from a different culture and I had a blessed day with knowing their background and learn about their traditional costume.
